The legal system of Ghana is based on English common law and customary law. Over 100 distinct ethnic linguistic groups are represented in Ghana.
Sources of Law in Ghana;
Article 11 of the 1992 Ghana Constitution states that the laws of Ghana shall comprise: The Constitution Enactments made by or under the authority of the Parliament established by the Constitution [or legislation]; Any Orders, Rules and Regulations made by any person or authority under a power conferred by this Constitution [or subsidiary or subordinate legislation]; The existing law or the written and unwritten laws of Ghana that existed immediately before the coming into force of the 1992 Constitution]; and The common law [or the English common law, English doctrines of equity, and the rules of customary law]
The Criminal and Civil Law Internship Program in Ghana is one of the most highly recognized legal internship opportunities in Africa. It has been described as one of the finest pre-law experiences available and has been consistently ranked as one of the most hands-on internship programs. The interns are assigned to either one or two attorneys in the trial division for whom they are to complete all investigative aspects of the assigned cases.
